Welcome to the City of Oshkosh Division of Inspection Services of the Department of Community Development.

Our goal is to assist you in a helpful, professional and courteous manner with your building project. Whether constructing a new structure, remodeling or changing the use of an existing structure, you will be in contact with our office to assist you in the plan review, permit issuance, code consultation and inspection processes. We understand at times that these processes might seem to be a bit overwhelming due to the information needed or code compliance requirements to ensure your project complies with applicable code requirements. Rest assured the Division Members are committed to assisting you with education and direction. If we are not able to give you the direction or answers you seek, we will guide you on how and where you might obtain such. Please remember the codes, ordinances and requirements are designed to ensure the health, safety, welfare and comfort of the community.

The Inspection Services Division provides citizens, businesses and residents with information on code requirements and permits needed for building or remodeling as well as costs and procedures for obtaining a permit and inspections. The Inspection Services Division is responsible for reviewing plans, issuing permits and inspecting construction activity for compliance with building, electric, heating and plumbing codes. The Division also enforces City ordinances relating to Property Maintenance, Rental Housing and Zoning Codes.

It is our hope this site will prove to be helpful when considering a building project within the City of Oshkosh and we welcome any suggestions that you might have to improve the content of this website.

You are encouraged to contact our Division in the initial planning of your project in an effort to identify code issues and perhaps eliminate or reduce surprises along the way. 7:30-8:30 am & 12:30-1:30 pm (or by appointment)

7:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday-Friday

Inspectors are available for consultation and permit issuance 7:30-8:30am and 12:30-1:30pm.  If citizens are unable to make it to the office during the above hours for permits, the inspectors will make appointments to meet at other reasonable times.
